Diwali

On Friday we celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights. It was such a nice change from a busy week at work to be surrounded by my three little nieces. Kayla napped through the service, while Kaylin and Kiera were wide awake. Then came the sparklers and fireworks:

It was nice a way to end the work week!

Roles

The wedding is now over and as I said in my last post, we're wondering what to do now. We're grateful to both have full time jobs, so it appears that we're going to put effort into those jobs for the next couple of months -- not that we haven't been putting our effort before.

Devika said it best about a month ago: "It seems our roles have changed". To explain, going back about a year or so ago, my job at that time had me going pretty much non stop throughout the day and usually into the evening. I'd have my Blackberry and constantly checking it. Devika on the other hand worked from 9-5 each day, didn't have a smartphone, and enjoyed her evenings, which absolutely should be the way to go. About six months ago, I started a new job; no Blackberry, 9-5 days, the occasional evening shift. Devika on the other hand is at her current job but the amount of work has drastically increased and is now, essentially, "me".

Nothing wrong with either scenario, but it's funny how, in terms of work, our roles changed. It's a good balance. The ultimate goal is for the both of us to have 9-5 jobs, and once we leave the office, no work is done until we get back into the office the next day. Actually, the ultimate goal is laying on the beach with money growing in the bank...but that's a different post.

What's the point of this post? Not sure, really.

Balance, is a good point of this post. Although each of us have busy work lives, we appear to still had time to plan a wedding, plan a trip or events, or spend time with our family and friends. And now that the wedding is over, we won't have an excuse on not pursuing the things we wanted to do before. We have many things in mind, like travelling or learning a new hobby.

And I will end it here, since it appears I'm babbling on about a topic that's not leading anywhere. Hopefully it somehow made sense.

Post-Wedding

It's no longer a "road to October 2010"...it's now the road after October 2010.

The big weekend was about two weeks ago, but it's still fresh in our minds. We still can't forget each feeling we felt, the amount of support from our family and friends, and just how happy we were the entire weekend. Every ounce of planning over the past year was well worth it.

What now? We asked ourselves that same question afterwards. We really don't know. We don't know what to do with ourselves anymore as there's no more planning left to do! Well, obviously there is planning...there's planning for what's next, and exactly what is still unknown.

Maybe we'll go back to school for something, or take some classes...travel...no babies yet, though.

Depending on the responses we get back, maybe we'll keep on blogging and change the title to something new.

Attire

A lot of people have been asking about the attire for the ceremony on Saturday. A simple answer; anything that you would wear to a regular ceremony. The only exception is to try not to wear ENTIRELY black (traditionally, wearing black to a ceremony appears that you're going to a funeral, whereas you should be celebrating!) or red (traditionally, the one wearing red is the bride). If you wear black pants and another colour shirt, that's perfectly fine. That's it! Nothing complicated or anything "special" should be worn.

Same goes for the reception on Sunday; wear what you would wear to a reception!

Ah yes...

...the blog. When I said I'd blog every day, that didn't mean weekends...or Mondays.

We had a mini WWW this past weekend. Little did we know that we still had a bunch of things to do when we made a list on Friday. We made through most of the items, with some of the items that couldn't be completed as yet.

We have one more meeting with the coordinator this week, and a meeting with the photographer next week.

Thank you to the "helpers" who met up with us yesterday. You guys are a select bunch and although we went through the timeline in a couple of hours, we trust that everyone will use their own judgement and do the right thing if it comes down to it.

With 10 more days to go, it sounds close, yet it feels so far. It's like preparing for an exam; you can never be ready for it no matter how much work you put into it. I'm pretty confident of how the days will pan out. I must say that Devika and I have stayed on top of things from the beginning and never let anything slip between our fingers. I know everything will be great, because it's our wedding day, we have great family and friends behind us, and there's nothing that will matter that day other than to celebrate.

Slideshow

We're currently working on a quick slideshow to be played during the reception. Although it's a typical wedding thing to do, it gives a chance for everyone to see pictures of us when we were younger. And for those who have known us since we were little, it brings back those special memories that they have.

I'm actually having fun created the slideshow because (in no particular order) 1) it gives me the chance to use my computer and actually use software, rather than the usual browsing 2) it's nice to dig up all those old pictures of Devika and I and see how far we have come and 3) it's rewarding creating a slideshow of us, family, and friends because when do you ever do this without a specific reason?

Sleep

As the days are counting down, sleep is one of the most important things that we need in our systems. We're trying to go to bed at a decent time for the next couple of weeks in preparation for the wedding. As you can see the time stamp on this entry, it's somewhat late and past the "bed time" that we're trying to keep.

Picked up the favours for the Sunday reception today! We're really happy with them, because they weren't overly expensive and we're hoping that our guests will enjoy them.

It's almost officially Friday, so I should post this before the clock strikes twelve so I can keep my 'one post a day' going.

2w wknds lft

Wow, not being in Toronto for a week really makes a difference. I come back from my various trips, and all of a sudden, there's only 2wo more weekends left until the WW (wedding weekend)!

With fall officially here, the days seem to be shorter with less time to accomplish anything. We went over our master wedding spreadsheet, and it appears everything is on track. So far, we've talked about some wedding items, but we have yet to sink our teeth into the nitty gritty. There's only one more meeting left and that's with the photographer, which shouldn't take long anyways.

This weekend will be our last weekend in Toronto before the big days. Next weekend will be spent in Whitby for a few wedding related items, so that will be a busy time.

We will try our best to update everyday, even if it's a few lines.

Cool as a Cucumber

I’m cool as a cucumber despite:

• the florist cancelling meeting with us on Sunday because she forgot to order our flowers to make a sample centre piece. I’ve booked another meeting with her on Thursday so we’ll see what happens
• Dennis being gone for the entire week . We worked hard last week and there’s not a lot of wedding stuff to do this week so I’m glad that he gets a break from planning.
• My mom telling me that the neighbors are attending the wedding although their rsvp card said otherwise. We’ve got space and I’m glad that they can make it.
• Work being so hectic. There’s only so much I can do in 9 hours of work because my brain turns to mush.

With almost three weeks to go before the wedding, I’m telling myself to take it easy and enjoy every moment.
